Karachi Children’s Art Fest – A Small Initiative

It was the year 2013, and sometime in October, when during a brainstorming session, the idea of Karachi Children’s Arart fair logo 02 finalt Fest (KCAF) came into being. The idea had its root for a while in my head, especially since my brief time in USA for a training program, where I first got the chance what a real Museum looks like and the impact it can have. Since then, the feeling that something better needs to exist for kids has always been stuck in my head – in other words, the idea that I deserved something better as a kid never left me.

It was therefore in a sudden fit of excitement that KCAF was established. It  was a collaboration of ArtChowk The Gallery, TBYU (my little initiative) and Spaces Gallery. In this country which is already tormented by tons of incidents of terrorism, violence – both ethnic and religious, lack of infrastructure, it comes as no surprise that we provide no spaces for kids to nurture their creative faculties. We have almost no Museums (the ones that we do have and what they do contribute is a topic for yet another day). In the absence of all this, how is it that we are to expect anything from the generations to come? KCAF therefore is a response to the lack of spaces. It is a platform to allow kids to connect with art and colors, and things which allow us to open our minds to new things and possibilities and be fascinated by it. KCAF 2014 was not a great hit, but it was a step – a very tiny one at that, but enough to tell us that this is a need, which we need to continue taking. With almost 5 thousand people attending the event over a course of two days, where everything was made free to the public, it was a venture that needs a lot of support still. So what does KCAF 2015 holds for the city? More on that soon.

DO ME……A FAVOR!

I need help.. A big help! A favor.. like the biggest favor that you would ever do to a person that you have not seen or will never see in your life!

I need all of you to take out some time to fill out the form here!

This is for some research that I am trying to do and it would mean the world to me if you can find the time to just fill it out! The form is about books, so if you are a book lover then do this – a favor from one book lover (you) to another book lover (me) !!!

DO THIS FOR ME PLEASE!

Gone to the Dogs?

How many times in a day do you exclaim, “This country has gone to the dogs”? I am assuming that it must be at least once in a day when KESC decides to shut down the electricity! And then considering that the light goes out for at least 3 hours everyday, that’s 3 times in a day then! Then there is the traffic in which you are stuck, the strikes, the riot, the increase in prices, The every other day strike, etc.

But if you are like me, than that statement, while continues to linger on at the back of your head somewhere, it is no longer a serious belief with which you attach yourself. you learn to move on, and IT IS EXACTLY THIS WITH WHICH I HAVE A PROBLEM!

This is not a post about something specific! Because the number of things that are bothering me at the moment is so long that I would need to write for two months constantly just to fill in all that is bothering me at the moment.

But for sure, this country has gone to the dogs!

After the riots last week, in which MQM leader was shot in his home in the early hours, the chaos, apparently by unnamed extremists, is  enough to make even a blind man scream out, “You idiots!”.

And one accusation, whether false or not, was enough for Rehman Malik the Great to put two people on the ECL. no investigation, no fact findings by your own state machinery, just one claim by one stupid MQM representative and that’s it!

Lets vent more shall we!

PPP, have you freaking lost your mind? You could not find any other area where the terrorist are hiding except Lyari? Why are you so much against your own people and your own vote bank? And is pleasing MQM so important that you would rather lose sight of what is sane and what is not? I am not even going to say right and wrong here, because apparently in politics those words are worth little.

And what about the Supreme Court (indeed)! Hey Mr. Chief Justice, I mother didn’t make nice food yesterday, you want to take suo-moto notice on that too?

This country is becoming more and more of a joke every single day

Is the Supreme Court out just to get the Government?

Listening to a new item on the radio today, a single thought occurred to me “What the hell is wrong with the Judiciary?” Now that seems to be a question that has been asked by almost everyone in the last few days! So there is nothing new there! But in all seriousness, just for emphasis, let me say it again. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE JUDICIARY?”

It actually seems the judiciary has limited its role to simply making the Government look bad! More so it seems that the most important role of the judiciary as an institute has become to just be a hindrance in the Governments path!

Every decision that the Government takes is called in for accountability almost immediately by the Higher Courts, and it actually seems that half the time the Government is making rounds of the courts!

In their self-belief that they are doing the right thing, the Apex Courts are forgetting that if it is about revenge, then they are taking it out on the wrong party. And if it is about doing the right thing, then you first need to re-consider the recent verdict on Mukhtaran Mai‘s case.

In all honestly, I seriously feel that this Government has hardly had any break to actually continue working seriously! If it isn’t MQM making a fuss, it is the Judiciary playing all God-like!

And it has to be said, that the failure of this Government is because of such hindrances!

The new FB Censor Policy!

The latest news that is coming regarding the FB issue is that it should be either banned completely or it should be censored! So what it would basically mean that from now on the Dope heads would be able to do whatever they want without us knowing about it.. and then we wont even have to do this charade of protest…

I can understand why the elite urban class is not coming out of their homes.. First of all, this would mean a threat to anyone’s life .. I mean, of you are not protesting with them, then it automatically makes you an infidel, and then also because all of their protests were organized over FB.. so ya, I am sure that they are having a lot of problems..

Also are we the only Muslim Country who is having a problem.. or am I just not watching enough CNN nowadays.. because I have not seen any new item that would suggest that someone else is also having this much problem..

And another point and insult for the PTA.. according to them they have banned Facebook, Youtube and 150 other links (I would love to know the names of those though) due to the caricatures, but somehow I can still access porn.. Idiots!
