Since the moment I turned on my tv, I have been hearing comments and statements from my mother – and after coming home from my father – about how evil (I can’t find any other word) the attacks targeted at the Ahmadi’s were. And I can’t help but agree with them and feel sad about where we are heading towards as a nation. This incident is just one more nail in the coffin that will be of Pakistan.
Almost as soon as the incident happen, analyst and reporters flooded the tv screens with their own analysis about who could be behind it. Beside the fact that the responsibility had already been taken by a random fundamental wing called the Punjab Taliban (PTI), but still the old hearsay could still be heard on the airways about how there is the involvement of a foreign head in it and how they are trying to destabilize the country.. I just don’t understand.. why don’t they finally get it that this country doesn’t need a foreign hand to destabilize it.. It is doing a pretty good job on its own.
As I write this post, it is 11 pm.. it has been almost 8 hours or so since the attack on this minority group took place, and I cant stop but feeling helpless, because I feel that despite all our awareness and big talks, we don’t do anything.. how many of us can i hope to see tomorrow on the streets to protest against what has happened? I hope the answer is better than I am thinking!I remembered a joke that someone had made about Ahmadi’s that they were the most religious lot she had seen, always fasting and praying and this makes them even more boring… she used to say “If this is their condition when they are not considered Muslims, consider what they would have been like if they weren’t constitutionally banned?”

I hate it when people say that they don’t have a choice, because to be very honest you always do have a choice, some people might not want to accept this fact, but this is how it is! Why am I blabbing such nonsense crap? Well a friend of mine (you know who you are) exclaimed today about something that well I don’t have a choice.. I didn’t say anything then, but then i got thinking about it.. Is it really true? Do we really don’t have a choice, are we just puppets with strings ?
Philosophically and Religiously, one can say that yes we really don’t have a choice, but I am not here to do a Sherlock Holmes/Dr. Watson joke out here (let’s make that another post shall we ? )
No choice, none... Nope, No No No!
Its been so so many days since I have seen my FB ( I lost count after the first intense 24 hours ). For all of you who were taking a vacation on Timbaktu, the summary is that after some Dopehead made a group “Everybody Draw Mohammad Day” and after some radicals filed a petition in Lahore High Court to have the site banned through PTA, who went on ahead and felt that it is their moral duty to block every website name that they know.. This would explain why Hotmail, Yahoo, Youtube, Twitter are not working anymore.
Anyways I thought that after many whinny post about how I miss my darling, It is about time that I write about some of the major impacts that is is having on me. Here is a list of things:-
1. Finding Creative new ways to waste way: Till the good old times of
My new addiction.. I am sorry FB, Trust me its just an infatuation
having FB in my life, my major time was spent playing a lot of games, and a little bit of socializing with my friends.. Initially I thought I would get some work done, but nooooo… now all my day is lost in venting about it online, trying to find back doors, and getting addicted to TweetDeck!
2. Making up Conspiracy Theories: Yes, I know that this point alone would confirm for many of you out there that I am going nuts.. But really, if they can still come up with reasons like RAW, and Jewish Lobby then why can’t I add a bit of my own theories. SO here is mine.. this was all done to minimize the Musharraf Campaign on FB.. I mean think about it, the lawyers hate him.. and he had been using FB to lure in people towards his fan page with his ad popping up on the right side of the screen… So the lawyers created this page and then had FB ban the entire website, so that they can stop his spread of evil…… This would one day be recognized as the biggest cover up of our history.. ! I think its high time – since it is becoming obvious as it is – that I am addicted to the Social Networking Site. I miss my Facebook, and I worry about what if the ban becomes permanent. Lets not forget, that almost all of us have tons of stuff online, from our family pictures to our dog’s boring poses. And I don’t just want it to wander around online like its in an vacuum..
The latest arguments coming out from twitter include that we should stand up and go to SC or something.. but people forget that this means that you would come out in front of millions of those radicals that won’t take a minute to pronounce you as an Infidel.. and yes, I know what that means.. simply because I have seen such blames affecting people and their daily lives!
Miss you Facebook!
So what is the sane population – as this is what we are being labeled now on Twitter – suppose to do.. As the radicals turn to the streets, we keep sitting on the last Cyberspace Greener Pastures, twitter that is! Are we really to believe that we can make an impact like this.. I doubt it!
The latest news that is coming regarding the FB issue is that it should be either banned completely or it should be censored! So what it would basically mean that from now on the Dope heads would be able to do whatever they want without us knowing about it.. and then we wont even have to do this charade of protest…
I can understand why the elite urban class is not coming out of their homes.. First of all, this would mean a threat to anyone’s life .. I mean, of you are not protesting with them, then it automatically makes you an infidel, and then also because all of their protests were organized over FB.. so ya, I am sure that they are having a lot of problems..
Also are we the only Muslim Country who is having a problem.. or am I just not watching enough CNN nowadays.. because I have not seen any new item that would suggest that someone else is also having this much problem..
And another point and insult for the PTA.. according to them they have banned Facebook, Youtube and 150 other links (I would love to know the names of those though) due to the caricatures, but somehow I can still access porn.. Idiots!
So the latest events to make me hate the fact that I live in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is the ban on Social Media Site, Facebook! This has been a result of some Dope Head sitting far far away and a Radical-With-No-Brains who was sitting in the Lahore High Court! (To understand the sarcasm please read my last post)
Anyways so I am sitting online, with absolutely no contact with my Mafia, Pet or Farm. A thousand other in this country are also sitting along with me cursing the government and the newly-found of the Courts that at least I am already starting to regret. (Never thought I would say that)
I just don’t understand the ban.. SO we banned facebook so that they can
There couldn't have been more than a 100 peole at this protest.. I saw the Karachi version of it!Image from dawn.com
carry on with their “Everyone Draw Mohammad Day” Peacefully without any interference or Protest.. Thank you whoever you were who did this case in the Lahore High Court! The entire Country is cursing you!
I mean, people couldn’t you have just gone and reported the page.. It seems like we were celebrating the day.. that’s why it was so important to block Face book here in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.. I mean… think for a minute before doing something.. And next you know it they would be going out on the streets doing protest and in the process of voicing their opinions, they would burn motorcycles, shops and cars, thus affecting so many people by their idiotic way of thinking things through! So I am sure most of you who have their eyes and ears open on Facebook must have heard about the latest thing that has come to bite the ass of most Muslims… So what must have happened is that a couple of dope heads would have gotten together and this is how imagine the conversation must have taken place..
Dope Head #1: Hey dude whats up…
DP#2 : Nothing man.. just the same old …Even Virtual World is so f***** bore nowadays
DP#1 : Hey lets push some Muslims button.. that is always fun for a few days at least
DP#2: I know what you mean man.. The South Park push was a nice one..,,
DP#1: or like the time when this Danish guy pissed them.. that was fun.. oh hey.. I have a great idea.. let’s do a Draw Mohammad Day.. that would truly piss them off…
DP#2: Ha Ha… that would be fun..
Dope Head Vs. The Radicals
So they did what they wanted to and then someone on this side of the globe must have read it and this is the conversation that they must have had.. Lets call them Radical-With-No-Brains
RWNB#1: Allah-ho-Akber-(God is Great) Nauzobillah (God Forgiveness) what have these infidels have done now..
So no offense to WordPress people or anything, but I am simply going to stop obsessing about being on the Freshly Pressed from today.. as in right now… NOW.. .any minute now.. and DONE!
See there is a reason for this.. so you see a few days back I read this post “FIVE WAYS TO GET FEATURED ON FRESHLY PRESSED by Joy Victory and it was all about how you can make it to the honor list by doing certain things.. and I swear to you I actually put in an effort since reading that post (yes I realize it has been just a week or so) ..Anyways so I searched pictures that might be relevant, tried to think of interesting names… tried to be funny, etc etc.. you get the picture right! Basically I drove myself nuts trying to fill in all the requirements!
Bang, Bang, Bang, BANGGGGGGGGGGGGG
As we sat down to dinner and then as we were about to get up from it, my dad told us an interesting event that had happened to him today. As he approached Urdu College, he saw a bunch of students running from the college towards the other side of the road. He had to slow down because of them, and just as he did that another 20 -30 students came out of the college with sticks in their hands, and they started surrounding my dad’s car, and almost charged at him, when he sped up and drove for his life.
Now what makes me wonder is that had they simply lost their mind? Are they simply crazy? What sort of anarchic society are we living in that students in University would be now doing these sort of things.. Let me just say.. these are very scary times to be living in Pakistan!
On Sunday night, while reading the newspaper and going through the headlines that were already a few hours too late, I came across the statement by American Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. The statement was clear, and there wasn’t any doubt about what it can mean to us. It read,
I turned to my dad and asked ” Can America really bomb us?”
He looked at me with a look (that I have yet to decipher) and then laughed (again which has to be decoded) and said “Ofcourse they can ”
Could this happen to Karachi Yesterday?
Now please don’t go on assuming that this question reveals the skeptic, naive, or politically unaware person inside of me. I am well aware of the fact that there is a war going on in half of the country, a matter of a couple of miles from our capital, but the fear (yes I am not scared to say that I was worried) that this “severe consequences” can mean the same fate for cities like Karachi as for Waziristan was a bit too much for me. A lot has been said about Mother’s Day and there is absolutely nothing more that I can say or add here.. But somehow I have never been able to celebrate this day as is expected from the us now thanks to the media.. they have found one more way to make us feel bad about how they should be showering their mother/father/sister/dog/neighbor with love, flowers, and cards..
See I don’t think that there is anyone out there who doesn’t appreciate what their parents do for them.. And if they don’t then believe me one day won’t change their feelings. But putting all this emphasis on them for one day and then just taking it away from them the other day is just as cruel.. I mean, the love should be constant.. not a day where you can wash away your guilt for the rest of the year.
So yes, you have guessed it right.. I didn’t give my mother anything special, or buried her under tons of flowers, but for me and my sister it has been a constant understanding since we were kids.
Both of my parents worked, and therefore whatever responsibilities were there had to be shared. I have seen my mother and my father return from work at 12 am and at that point they would come pick us up from our grand mother’s house and then take us home. I have seen her struggle as she tried to explain the concept that there are mother’s who work and not just stay home all day and that too is okay. Continue reading
